Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information
The RIAA path through the first input has two coupling caps - one at the input the second at the output - so the cutoff is about 1.6X higher IIRC. With a FET op amp in the RIAA section you might be able to eliminate the one on the RIAA output. I always wondered whether it was better to drive the RI...

Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information
These are working into a 14K3Ω load. Wima now have some nice 5 mm lead spaced films in the MKS2 series that go up to 6.8µF so keeping them film is do-able. It looks like if you want polypropylene 4,7uF is the largest easily available. Mouser has offerings in a 22.5mm LS for the old boards from Pana...

Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information
I have some 4.7uF Cornell Dubilier PP film caps that I used in the Sontecish EQ. I still have some that are within a couple of precent of each other. This produces +19dBu @ 20 Hz.
I’ll leave the other ones with 1.0uF in place and will listen to see which I like best.

Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information
Thanks Wayne. I’ll see what I have and what will fit. I rhink I’ll stick with a film cap.

Re: Phono Transfer System Construction Information
I'm making three separate PTS's. Each will have a tonearm attached. I have the three working. Doing the frequency response tests in the construction information produces the stated results. My gain structure is a little different so I'll use my numbers instead of what's in the instructions. If there...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
VAR - the only time I use that mode is for mix bus work, most similar to what Paul is doing, and then to tailor the pumping factor rhythmically for creative effect. Knobs seem to both live in a fairly narrow 8-11 o'clock range, no matter what. I’ve noticed that most of the time I’ve been using shor...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
I'll add that over time I find I'm using non-linear mode the most with Pico's in pop music, acoustic Americana, etc. I rarely ever use adjustable attack/release, it's NL or RMS. Never the peak mode. I think the waveulator is a better approach for transients. I probably should have built it that way...

Re: A Quadrature Power-Summed Compressor Sidechain For "The Uno Compressor"
I’m glad you are working on a Pico replacement. I’m not enamored with my Pico builds. I have them only in variable A/R mode. I don’t think that VAR circuit was tweaked out as much as it could be. It always seems like too little or too much. I’ve wanted to switch them over to using the timing caps bu...
