Re: A Modern Loftech TS-1 Audio Test Set

WRT output squarewaves: The DAC output will require a buffer to drive balanced audio loads. Make the output buffer switch from linear operation to squaring with a simple switch or transmission gate controlled by a port pin. Switch an internal circuit node in the buffer to increase an internal stage...

Re: Stored Code? Real Men Use Logic Gates, Flip Flops, Diodes and Transistors

So the TL431 is probably used a gate bias spreader and doesn't need the tempco correction. A great application. Low dynamic impedance is your friend. Lateral mosfets like used in those power amps have a temperature coefficient that moves in the opposite direction from bipolar power devices as typic...

Re: On Semi CAT4016 Serial Input Constant-Current LED Driver for Bargraphs

That TI part has the same pinout so it appears multi-sourced. There appear to be some Chinese process-control LED bargraph meters that use them. If you were to publish the design would you provide the source code? As long as I don't have to deal with too many snarky comments about my sloppy and poo...

Re: Stored Code? Real Men Use Logic Gates, Flip Flops, Diodes and Transistors

P.S. Found out last night that the power amp I am currently using that I was given by a friend uses TL431 for the output stage bias. Which seems an eminently sensible use for it :) We discussed this possible application in another thread. Delivering a constant voltage irrespective of temperature ma...

Re: Stored Code? Real Men Use Logic Gates, Flip Flops, Diodes and Transistors

@Bill I think the big issue is that, if you are building one of something you can do what the hell you want and it doesn't matter. +1. @JR You didn't use the latest and greatest because it was the latest and greatest. You used it because it was the right part for the job. Fine. No one makes you def...

Re: Entropy

The term “tree hugger” was first coined 1730, when 294 men and 69 women of the Bishnois branch of Hinduism, physically clung, or “hugged” the trees in their village in order to prevent them from being used to build a palace. These “tree huggers” were then killed by the foresters cutting down the tr...

Re: On Semi CAT4016 Serial Input Constant-Current LED Driver for Bargraphs

http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tlc59025.pdf I used a similar (identical?) TI part in my second generation drum tuner... In my first generation tuner I drove a matrix of LEDs directly from the 5V micro pins. The later 3.3V processor lacked the drive current capability on typical ports. In case I d...

Re: Stored Code? Real Men Use Logic Gates, Flip Flops, Diodes and Transistors

Who cares about the latest and greatest? When making a battery powered product, using a class D audio amp IC has merit, for extended battery life. My first generation tuner used a class AB driver with discrete transistor buffers running from a 9V battery. The class D IC made more power from a lower...

Re: Stored Code? Real Men Use Logic Gates, Flip Flops, Diodes and Transistors

It's not anger it's just sometimes using a micro doesn't make sense for someone wanting 1 or 2 or don't want to go to the hassle of writing code for a one-off when they could use a diode and op amp. Just because you can doesn't mean you have to. yes... I have known those guys... I'm going to be doi...

I love polystyrene and used piles of them in my kit company back in the 70's -80's, but they were not robust enough for large scale manufacturing processes.

NPO/COG ceramic will be suitably neutral (linear) and more robust.
