Re: modifying Yamaha MLA7 towards Trans-Amp-like circuit

Control of DC output via the servo in figure 13-3: WHERE does that particularly matter? The inverter? Effect on THD? I don't think you'll need the servo since Rg is AC-coupled. JR, your POV makes sense to me on the servo. Servo and non-servo both look AC coupled. I'm failing to see the real point o...

Re: modifying Yamaha MLA7 towards Trans-Amp-like circuit

hahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa!! Wow. Dear JW/AU..... Got it, mostly....partly.... The Self book; somehow that fell off into a black hole in a blind spot, I've never seen it. Very clear descriptions. I found the documents for the next gen MLA8, and it incorporates those changes, moves to 4580 op am...

Re: modifying Yamaha MLA7 towards Trans-Amp-like circuit

So the thing I've explained poorly: I think the reference is only the bit of including the transistors in the feedback path to lower distortion, like the trans-amp does. I think. I don't believe he's referring to the entire circuit. That seems to be what he's advocating with the Soundcraft console f...

modifying Yamaha MLA7 towards Trans-Amp-like circuit

I have a couple Yamaha MLA7 eight channel preamp units I used to carry for remote jobs. I found a mention from Jim Williams / Audio Upgrades about changing them to be more like the Trans-Amp circuit, and similar mentions about some Soundcraft input stages. He seems to famously tell you half the reci...

Re: Zero Hedge: "What Gen Z Learned From Millennials: Skip College"

Autodidact here. I wish I had had the ability to suffer through formal education for many reasons, but just couldn't at the time. Probably better suited to it now. I'm always frustrated by people exploring simple electronics theoreticals online when they could answer the question for themselves on t...

Re: simple stereo extraction from L+R and L-R mid-side?

So many synth and piano samples don't work in mono, they have 'enhanced' stereo phase issues. You can't even pan them in slightly without them falling apart. I remember a mastering session in which I'd done half a record, another studio the other half. One of the tracks from the other place had bass...

Re: Welcome to the Land of the Free and Sub $2 Gasoline

I saw $1.99 several places in Virginia yesterday. It was $2.07 a half mile from I-95, and all the stations directly off the I-95 exit were $2.79. Capitalism at work!
