Re: THAT4301 Analog Engine End of Life. Last Time Buy May 1, 2019

I see my inventory are all the 'A' version, and that was discontinued 4-5 years ago. I hardly see a difference, and maybe the current version had improvements that obsoleted the need for two versions. All the relevant project discussions are long gone from here and the other place, remind me again w...

Re: Newark Electronics MCM Electronics "Exclusive Brands"

This absorption hadn't registered in my mind. I used to get all sorts of things from MCM.

Re: modifying Yamaha MLA7 towards Trans-Amp-like circuit

I have lots of new stock JRC 4560s if you like the sound of the Mackie. Oh no, I put masking tape over the XLR inputs and started using other preamps 2 decades ago. I only used the tape input which bypasses all of that. Veer because I listened to this side by side with the MLA7 at the time. C135 an...

Re: modifying Yamaha MLA7 towards Trans-Amp-like circuit

Curiosity veer; I looked back at what Mackie was doing in the 8 bus series. I recall times I liked the Yamaha sound over the Mackie by a bit, it was probably the distortion on the loud rock bands I was tracking at the time.

Re: modifying Yamaha MLA7 towards Trans-Amp-like circuit

Control of DC output via the servo in figure 13-3: WHERE does that particularly matter? The inverter? Effect on THD? I don't think you'll need the servo since Rg is AC-coupled. JR, your POV makes sense to me on the servo. Servo and non-servo both look AC coupled. I'm failing to see the real point o...

Re: modifying Yamaha MLA7 towards Trans-Amp-like circuit

hahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa!! Wow. Dear JW/AU..... Got it, mostly....partly.... The Self book; somehow that fell off into a black hole in a blind spot, I've never seen it. Very clear descriptions. I found the documents for the next gen MLA8, and it incorporates those changes, moves to 4580 op am...

Re: modifying Yamaha MLA7 towards Trans-Amp-like circuit

So the thing I've explained poorly: I think the reference is only the bit of including the transistors in the feedback path to lower distortion, like the trans-amp does. I think. I don't believe he's referring to the entire circuit. That seems to be what he's advocating with the Soundcraft console f...
