Bootstrapped HV Supply for DC-Coupled Preamp

I was able to test the bootstrapped power supply and it works like a champ. This is the rectifier that derives +85VDC (unregulated) for the floating supply. https://proaudiodesignforum.com/images/jpg/DC_Preamp_Power_Supply_Simplified_BW.JPG DC-Coupled Preamp Power Supply Rectifiers I need about 20 ...

Re: A Direct-Coupled Input-Capacitorless Active Mic Preamp

As it turns out the fullwave bootstrapped voltage doubler (tripler) can be made with a second bridge. The entire bulk supply are the five caps and two bridges providing +/-28V and ~+85V. Two caps (100uF/100V) are to float the second bridge. The remaing caps are filters. I'm using a 15VA 36V transfo...

Re: A Direct-Coupled Input-Capacitorless Active Mic Preamp

Well as it is now I get four supply voltages with only five bulk electrolytics and two "bridges" (one bridge and 4X diodes).
The extra cap provides the FW for the tripler and I get better low-line and less ripple current stress from the extra C so I'll take that.

Re: A Direct-Coupled Input-Capacitorless Active Mic Preamp

you could just dedicate a floating transformer winding or two, and just DC connect one end of this floated winding to the nominal Phantom voltage Yeah that's what I did in the first one. Electrolytic caps inside power amps also degrade more quickly due to increased operating temperatures, that acce...

Re: A Direct-Coupled Input-Capacitorless Active Mic Preamp

Maybe you can put that old gas pipeline back into service. Well they cut it, launched pigs, cleaned it, capped it and filled sections of it under streets with grout. Even if it were intact I don't think I'd want the bill just to pressurize it all the way back to Louisiana. The good news is th...

Re: A Direct-Coupled Input-Capacitorless Active Mic Preamp

Since I worked on this project last July I've gotten a new roof, bought a truck, helped form a neighborhood website using http://www.nextdoor.com, helped sponsor two crime watch meetings and a National Night out, found a policy conflict in Dallas' 911 aggressive animal dispatch policy using Public ...

Re: New THAT4316 and THAT1583

If had to guess most of the minor differences we see in this part results from process changes and smaller die size. I'm wondering if they lowered the output stage current*, used smaller geometry input transistors, and put the current they took out of the output and moved it back to the input stage....

Re: New THAT4316 and THAT1583

The DI generally makes a better part, so it makes sense to have multiple versions for premium users.
Yep, in the same footprint. They departed from that with the 5171/5173 but probably had to in order to reduce package cost.

Re: New THAT4316 and THAT1583

With DI removed THAT may also be able to foundry this part using outside vendors to lower cost. The 4301 and 2252 are examples.
