Re: A Direct-Coupled Input-Capacitorless Active Mic Preamp

I'm doing measurements now, but it seems to take quite a while (15 min so far) to have the voltage settle. (AT 4033 transformerless right now) I’m using our SSK 4K transformerless mic pres. Does this seem right?

EDIT: That SSK is a new top-secret console design :o)

We have TLM 103s and TLM 149s, and some Schoeps. What exactly are you measuring?

Re: A Discussion About True Power Summing for Stereo Compressors

A lot of gates / expanders allow for linear or log (or something in between) AR times. Anyone try that with a comp?
Just a thought.......

Re: Resistor orientation

They fail inside the package. When you un-solder them from the board, the lead just falls out of the package. The device is attached to the side of a chassis, and soldered to a board that is mounted to the same chassis, so there is no mechanical heatsink "load" on the device. I now modify ...

Re: Resistor orientation

Thanks guys, Nice to have your thoughts! Most of the stuff I build ends up in a remote truck, so making things small is a plus. Even with a lot of bouncing down the road, I have yet to have a mechanical failure of a vertically mounted resistor, and I’ve been bouncing down the road for a number of ye...

Resistor orientation

I have noticed that in most DIY projects, the resistors are mounted horizontally on the board, usually taking up 0.1” x 0.5” of board real estate. Is there a specific reason for not mounting them vertically (and only taking up a 0.1” x 0.2” space)?
Thanks for your input!
