Re: PSU Enfuego: Exploding Power Supply Story in EE Life

Now that's a good one. Glad to finally go home that day!

Re: LC filter experiments, in Pultec MEQ context

If you look back at my results for varying the 5K1 shunt, you get an idea of the way the range is affected.

Re: LC filter experiments, in Pultec MEQ context

I assume you mean keeping the same sort of network, and just floating it all, as opposed to doing a truly balanced network with 2x parts. This sounds worth hearing. I wonder what typical inductor headroom really is, and how much they differ comparing original versus the various clones, and then how ...

Re: LC filter experiments, in Pultec MEQ context

I did use the 1246 and 1646 current boost as input stage. You need about 24 dB make up gain on the output side to get back to unity. Certainly no reason an appropriate IC gain stage driving a 1646 couldn't do the job.

Re: Centralized B+ and AC filament power distribution

there are very few 12 series tubes run at 12.6V in USA broadcast gear, they are at 6.3V 95% of the time. I try to avoid those high mu types, they don't sound as good as lower mu types to my ears. I'd say more than half of my tube gear is octal 6.3V. IMO, by the time you get to widespread use of 12AX...

Re: LC filter experiments, in Pultec MEQ context

That's interesting stuff. I have never seen any mention of this work, or of any association with RCA. I would assume it's him. The earliest references I've found have had to do with running a studio, modifying various surplus Altec amps, and making some of the earliest Pultec branded custom recordin...

Re: LC filter experiments, in Pultec MEQ context

I've never heard of any non-audio work. My understanding is the shop was pretty small.

I have had a few Gov notch filters from the same era, and the build quality is far beyond what I've ever seen in a Pultec product. I don't think they were ever thinking about the requirements of that market.

Re: Centralized B+ and AC filament power distribution

Actually no, I have yet to find an old broadcast piece that used 12.6.

Re: LC filter experiments, in Pultec MEQ context

Thanks. I haven't seen anything this explicit, always more broad theory without specific examples.

There must be a paper already, probably an IRE paper before AES existed.

Re: Centralized B+ and AC filament power distribution

I'll keep it in mind, but actually, I don't have one.

Finished the AR, and most of the SC.....
