Re: Headphone Outputs: Build-Out vs. No Build-Out

Not to be more contrarian than usual he is talking about distortion spurs down at -70dB.. for chuckles how about a distortion overlay for the transducer? Ah, there's the rub... He does admit that acoustic measurements may show more distortion... All measurements shown in this paper are taken at the...

Re: Headphone Outputs: Build-Out vs. No Build-Out

Sorry I didn't read the links I ASSume these measurements are of the voltage driving the cans, and ignoring the transfer function of the headphone transducers? Yes. Crosstalk at -60dB for stereo program is not a big deal. A 1/2 dB rise is barely audible in the midrange, and surely inaudible at freq...

Headphone Outputs: Build-Out vs. No Build-Out

And the winner is: No Build-Out. I recently updated the headphone amplifier post I did at DIY Audio that's based on the THAT1646 with current boost transistors. People over there were wanting to use the DRV134 and it requires a simple mod. One of the forum members asked about removing the build-out...

Re: Simulate That1570 ?

I never got into circuit simulation... back in the early days it wasn't that reliable.
Jensen Comtran? John - Did you ever have the hardware to run that?

samsagaz:

I don't know why they haven't provided a model of the 1570 yet.

It's certainly not here: http://www.thatcorp.com/Device_Models.shtml

Re: Common Mode Chokes

I'm going to be ordering some common mode chokes in the 1-3 mH range from Mouser today and will look at those for mic input applications. I did run some pulsed RF (LF square wave AM modulation of sine at 100%) tests using a combination of the 94 uH/leg CM choke, 1K dampers, 270 pF/leg with a cross-c...

Is Old Vinyl Black Gold?

We're all seeing the ads for people wanting to buy our gold.

This one, for vinyl, recently came in the mail and caught my eye.

You're gonna have to pry my old King Crimson and Yes albums from my cold, dead, hands.

Re: M/S codec finished (pics)

Wow, stunning.

I've seen some Lemo's used in TV broadcast remote applications here in the US.

Bill mentioned the green color and I'm reminded of vintage Altec gear. Your build has this retro vibe to it.

Re: Common Mode Chokes

Thanks John, Doug and ricardo. What carefully-chosen build-out resistors give, inductors taketh away... Fortunately resistors can give most of it back... A Zobel network was suggested earlier by ricardo. At the time I was thinking of a differentially-connected network of the type sometimes seen on t...

Re: Common Mode Chokes

Hey, I'm the perv who keeps using transformer coupled tube gear from the 1940's, where it tends to usually be down 3 dB at 20kHz. It sure sounds cleaner, and the brain really knows how to imagine the harmonics in ways better than reality. But plenty would argue with me. Who cares? Ah, the good 'ole...
