Re: BI Technologies Pots
So they (Bi Tech) makes the 9mm as a concentric - shafts way too short though for my project. Will stick with Omeg for now I guess. Using concentrics really limits your choices unless you're buying big numbers...

Re: A Discussion About True Power Summing for Stereo Compressors
Hmm, I guess I'm not understanding the rms thing yet LOL - seems to me that in feedback mode, the timing cap value would be dependent on the compression ratio to keep the same timing value (?)...I need to learn me some math...JR. wrote:Huh?

Re: A Discussion About True Power Summing for Stereo Compressors
Hey, another application might be for a feedback compressor with variable compression ratio; the stand-alone timing constant needs to be multipied by the compression ratio for a consistent rms timing value at all ratios, yes? That is if you could scale it correctly after ganging it to the ratio pot...

Re: BI Technologies Pots
They are actually called "guitar pots": http://www.bourns.com/data/global/pdfs/PDB241-GTR.pdf I guess it's an under-served market. Bourns doesn't seem to have a plastic conductive/cermet series really equivelent to the Claro 308- no switch options; detents, centertaps reverse log, e...

Re: BI Technologies Pots
Maybe they do make 'em- wouldn't hurt to call, right?

Re: A Discussion About True Power Summing for Stereo Compressors
Always good to know what you want. Do you use software comps too? (like this thread needs another direction...). I think it's cool that you build gear that you use professionally - old, OLD, school... Thanks John for drawing that up, I'll give it a try when I have a moment. Edit: It works in the sim...

Re: BI Technologies Pots
Wow, these look pretty good. Anyone used these before? The cross-ref for the Bourns 51 I use is the 260P. It seems to be almost half the price of the Bourns and 10 times the rotational life...

Re: A Discussion About True Power Summing for Stereo Compressors
PS: Some more food for thought, I suspect similar to the way opamps combine with small caps to make them look bigger in DC servos, a clever combination of small caps and opamps (and a pot) could synthesize a variable capacitor at that integration node, so you would have effectively an adjustable sp...

Re: A Discussion About True Power Summing for Stereo Compressors
Multiple-leveled NLC approach sort of seems too 'zippery' to me (if I can use another technical term). I was thinking something fully variable, but that's down the road for me. I'm a little burnt out on comps right now. Re:1500 chip - musically distort, not clipping, ha ha. Probably not user-adjusta...

Re: A Discussion About True Power Summing for Stereo Compressors
Go for it ?! Need to understand it first, LOL The non-linear capacitor dealy is too 'snappy', but a cap multiplier is an obvious idea. Or maybe 'flying' the timing cap? At the moment, I'm trying to make 1510's distort nicely - so a new A/R would be a future project anyway for a dedicated mastering ...
