Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ra

I have screwed the vanity fixture to the ceiling (just barely through sheet rock, but it is relatively light weight) and when off it looks a lot cleaner than the huge fluorescent fixture did, with it's circus tightrope support cable. The light output while completely competent, makes harder shadows,...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ra

Yeah.. I have to keep reminding myself that if people weren't so stupid we'd have to work a lot harder. But there is still the downside of having to survive the politicians that they accept and/or tolerate. ===== OK, the LED snow cones are completely competent at 7' firing down, probably a lit...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ra

Vanities and closets are the only place I use CFLs. Closets because they are used so infrequently and vanities due to light output. The Pink Ranch's main hall bathroom fixture only has two sockets. They were originally the small base 60W which is a trick the manufacturer used to get around the upco...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ra

It's good to know that T5 is 9% more efficient than T8 but if I were to invest in a new fixture i probably wouldn't buy fluorescent at all. I fired up my rube goldberg 4x LED lamps in a cheap vanity fixture and my initial reaction is not very enthusiastic. Certainly not a great work area light. This...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ra

This weekend I'll be channeling my inner green... saving electricity... I will replace one fluorescent fixture with 4x LED bulbs stuck in a cheap vanity fixture, and will replace the 30+ year old ballast in the other fluorescent fixture with a new electronic ballast... I am looking forward to seeing...

Re: Residential Lighting with LEDs: Retrofitting the Pink Ra

What I have in my bench Luxo lamps are the Sylvania LED8A/DIM/830. Those are "40W" 3000K. I find the color or quasi-point source nature of these make laser-marked part numbers "pop." THAT and ADI SMT were some of the hardest to read. I'm pretty sure that the "Utilitech"...

Re: Heathkit is Back!

Depends on what you mean by "pro" audio... large touring or professional installed sound is dominantly commercial manufactured. There has always been a bleeding edge mainly in studios of techs/engineers who rolled their own gear because they couldn't buy something that did the exact job. T...

Re: Heathkit is Back!

As the old joke goes, the chicken who laid the egg for the ham and eggs breakfast participated, but the pig was 'involved" . I used to be 'involved" in the kit business and saw the progression of automation in electronics manufacturing and the decline of kit price/value attractiveness. It ...

Re: Heathkit is Back!

I'm shocked....

That article seems to miss the point that consumers bought kits to save money... Contrary to his observation the kit industry is not booming.

Disposable consumer products are booming... It's all about the Benjamins

Re: A simple mixer channel with THAT120x and THAT1646

I prefer the non-inverting volume stage, but there are pros and cons.. The non-inverting opmap stage could be configured as a differential stage by adding a pair of resistors in the + input. This could properly forward reference the ground and deliver improved fader kill, even with the fader at the ...
