Re: Another claim on first use of artificial reverb
Once again, I wish I could ask my dad... He was a recording engineer for RCA in NYC in '50s, and I think also recorded NBC (or was it CBS) classical orchestra? When I was growing up I recall hearing a 78 lacquer pressing out-take of Stowkowski (?) cursing out the orchestra... but i lost track of tha...

Re: An Idea
Joel has posted his questions on several forums and the discussion has gravitated to a thread here- http://www.prodigy-pro.com/diy/index.php?topic=40053.100 I think checking out the Euphionix series was already suggested there. I have a passing interest in this, but this is not a good use of time fo...

Re: FCS P3S review in TapeOp
I saw the review.. that was a big sloppy wet kiss... good job. The compression slope knob having 50% of travel allocated to < 2:1 compression, will have the beneficial result of encouraging customers to use a lighter hand when dialing in compression... always a good thing. If you were doing ex...

congrats...
Indeed a lighted switch button seems a faint criticism... I doubt anybody would not buy one because of that... But put that on the list for the next generation more expensive version.

Re: A VCA-Based Phaser
I made studio flangers in the 70-80s and to mimmic true tape reel flanging, we would have needed two delays so the flanging could sweep all the way through zero. It seems a modern digital delay based flanger might be too clean.. IMO we need to model the phase and amplitude response of the tape machi...

Re: An Idea
JR- Just did a simple search on Digital pots. I was quite surprised on the amount available and there relatively low cost. Since i admittedly have never even breadboarded a digital pot, what kind of resolution do you think it would need to not be able to hear zipper noise... Hmmm. I am just now get...

Re: A VCA-Based Phaser
OK, if it is current input, perhaps that is what the R in series with the other filter cap is doing. Still looks like a classic 2 pole LPF and that gives the 180' of phase shift per stage as connected, when the 2x (10k) inverted output goes away the 1x (20k) takes over.

Re: An Idea
There is another thread here already where I have described a VCA based fader and pan pot replacement that feeds into a current source sum bus topology. Digitally controlling VCAs requires D/A conversion for every analog control voltage. Use of digital pots cuts out the middle man, so to speak, as y...

Re: An Idea
I know as an engineer the ultimate console would be a fully automatable analog console. IE: Offering the same extensive automation found in DAW's. Such as EQ and Comp auto. The question is: Outside of Cost factor, How would the use of VCA's (such as That 2181/2180A) in every Pot position on a desk ...
