P.I.S.S.? Yeah I can see why marketing didn't like it.
It actually sounds pretty cool though when not reduced to an acronym.
So you grok my hunch that it adds more punch.

I can easily believe that a reverb tail would be globular.

I use a 'scope in X-Y as a vectorscope.
There is a free software Vectorscope here though not VST: http://www.satsignal.net/

I've used it but prefer the 'scope.
I did find an internal soundcard mixer gain error (rotation) with it though.
Had been wondering why it was always a little right-heavy.

The best vectorscope for audio is the NTP in the CRT Danner cassette that was in the Neumann consoles. They have log amplifier inputs so they scale audio nicely. The display tubes are hard to come by though.

I use an HP 1200B in the studio. It has balanced inputs which makes it easy to interface. They have really nice displays and they are cheap on the bay. 500k bandwidth.

Thanks Paul. I hadn't thought about using a log amp for X-Y display but it seems like a very nice touch.
I think old CRTs are going to be very difficult to source other than salvaging them from old 'scopes bought on eBay.

The CRT is only a couple of inches around. The image has to fill the screen no matter the level because there isn't much display room. I have the documentation around somewhere. I'll see if I can dig it out.

I took a look around but couldn't find the NTP docs. When I run across them I;ll post them.
