It has excellent introductory chapters on basic electronics and is suitable recommendation for those who have problems with Ohm's Law.
Jones is ex-BBC and shows their usual thorough grasp of practical concepts. There are a few flaky points. eg his treatment of mu followers and lack of recognition of CGO/NPO ceramic capacitors.
This is probably the only detailed and accurate modern treatment of valve amplifiers. His comparison of various valve types is especially useful for those who want to avoid the Unobtainium Tube Co. or possible fraudulent copies of popular Golden Pinnae Devices.
Also the sections on designing PSUs for valve gear.
IMHO, his circuits are also somewhat flaky.
It is as though a good BBC engineer in the 50's had discovered modern solid state devices, used them to solve many valve problems but somehow missed the fact that they could be used as amplifying devices in their own right.
Only Fig 6.35 Belvoir Valley Power Amplifier shows the simplicity and elegance of the best valve designs. The others are reminiscent of the excellent but complex circuits designed by Broadcasting Organisations and top recording studios like Decca.
Though valves became extinct in the last century, with the closure of GEC Metal Oxide Valve Co. UK, I'm told tubes are very similar so I commend this book to anyone interested in tubes too.

Re: Morgan Jones - Valve Amplifiers
Thanks ricardo.
We have one post here with the schematic of the Morgan Jones fully-balanced preamp submitted by Ian Du Rieu: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=164&p=1369&hilit=morgan#p1369
The cathode loads using an LED and BJTs in the current sinks are interesting.
