Re: Electronic Design IFD: Modified Schoeps Capsule Design
That is interesting.... I don't think I've seen pads done that way but yes it appears you can mange both input and output terminations that way. Thinking about this a little more, there is one possible application where you might want to maintain termination impedance coming from the pad, and that i...

Re: Electronic Design IFD: Modified Schoeps Capsule Design
Yes, there is a single sweet spot component selection that maintains nominal input and output terminations. Since I am arguing that a lower output termination is generally harmless and could even deliver lower input noise (at the preamp), the pad amount criteria depends on external signal level expe...

Re: Electronic Design IFD: Modified Schoeps Capsule Design
Sorry, I've been distracted by taxes.. I don't know how to make a variable pad that doesn't alter input termination, which IMO must be held constant so the mic character doesn't change. Mic preamps are designed to expect 200 ohm source, but there is little benefit to adding a buildout R after the pa...

Re: Electronic Design IFD: Modified Schoeps Capsule Design
This is a tough call... and depends a little on the application. For live use I'd go with 15 or 20 dB and be done with it. In recording where I want to get the best S/N performance, I lean toward the 10-15 dB pad range. One possibility if you have a patch bay in your system is to put an additional 2...

Re: Electronic Design IFD: Modified Schoeps Capsule Design
That is pretty common practice in value gear. Just pad the line down and send it to the input. This way pad and polarity switches (that Mackie didn't have) work for mic or line inputs.

Re: Electronic Design IFD: Modified Schoeps Capsule Design
While this is just an anecdote.. I recall back when the Mackie 8 bus was popular, having to design an add on pad to help our service guys, so Peavey customers could plug the output from their VMP-2 (tube mic pre) into the Mackie input. It was too hot for the Mackie line input and the Mackie didn't h...

Those should likewise stand out from a comparison of current results to historical.

Re: Oncor Smart Meter Billing Errors
If the error is a one time, only from initializing the new meter to the old setting, it seems like it should be pretty easy to compare a customer's history, before and after the meter change to identify the error. If the meters are prone to running errors that's another animal.

Re: Oncor Smart Meter Billing Errors
I haven't really been paying close attention. I ASSumed California would already be doing it to shift consumer power usage off peak, due to their known issues with electricity costs. I believe this was pioneered by business customers who would obviously be paying closer attention to details. Is the ...
