shielding enclosure for prototyping

Now this is turning into "over thinking" for me....lol Recent threads here about the phono preamp and noise abatement for measurements stirred up months/years ago memories. Recent discussions also involved using pots and pans from the kitchen for shielding! Back to my earlier thoughts. Fin...

Re: A Low Noise Balanced Input Moving Coil Preamp Using the ZTX851

I found some deep drawn steel pans made for a buffet steam table that work pretty well as a magnetic shielding chamber. I wonder if a cast iron pan would work well for magnetic shielding of a prototype! I no longer have the Lodge skillet my wife used from time to time. After she passed in 2013 and ...

Re: A Low Noise Balanced Input Moving Coil Preamp Using the ZTX851

How about using a Hoffman "screw cover pull box" without the knock-outs as an outer shell? Widely available from electrical supply distributors. Heavy gauge steel. I'm thinking about getting a decently sized one...maybe 8x8 or larger....and poking Neutrik XLR and TRS jacks into the side al...

OK, cool! That same guy posted some same/some different pix and comments at GDIY:

Re: MEP-250 Bridged-T equalizer

Yes, it's somewhat clearer. Sometime when I have time on my hands I might breadboard the circuit.

Re: entropy continued?

Those are made by Heyco and sold at Mouser, etc. in a variety of sizes for different wire diameters. I use ignition pliers (which is a useful tool for many applications) to install them.

Re: entropy continued?

I've used Hoffman "screw cover pull boxes" to house various power supplies. They are available in a variety of sizes, with and without conduit knockouts. Sold at many electrical supply houses, and I've seen a small selection at Home Depot. Nice and heavy duty. https://hoffman.nvent.com/en/...

Telephone caller ID

A couple of days ago when at lunch with a friend, we got into a the conversation about the jillions of Robocalls we both receive. We know about number spoofing, and both of us don't answer our cell phones anymore unless the number is in our phone's address book. Both of us are in the gummint's "...

Re: Entropy

Wayne, I had to wander back in the "pink ranch" thread to recall if/when I called you a tree hugger...LOL! I found it from 2014, and I was on a rant about a CFL I had that almost burned down the house, and the gummint's award to Philips for "innovation" of a $50 LED bulb. Grumpy ...
