Re: SMT passives for audio

Well...I got the caps in.. AVX Niobium Oxide Nichicon Aluminum Polymer Panasonic FP in both 6.3V and 16V Murata Aluminum Polymer Both the Murata and AVX appear to be environment sensitive as they were shipped in sealed bags with dessicant and a humidity gage to see how much humidity they were expos...

Re: SMT passives for audio

Damn.. 1210 is huge in the context of smt resistors. I've seen 0201.. Well I couldn't really see them.

Re: SMT passives for audio

Am I correct to read those plots as susumus were "as good' as metal film TH?

Re: Simple MIDI Line mixer with THAT VCAs.

Yes, if one EC pin is left floating, it will surely misbehave. Both EC pins need to be near 0V and within mV of each other. For very large dB commands (like mute) you may want to drive both control ports in opposite directions (gain is the voltage difference between them), so neither one it too far ...

Re: SMT passives for audio

About those Susumu resistors...Digikey has about a dozen series of them in three different compositions. Thin film seems to be the only practical composition as the others have too small of values. Unfortunately that still leaves a few series. Off to the data sheets I guess. Another comment....I se...

Re: SMT passives for audio

The parts for SMT and TH (thru hole) PCB are generally made by the same folks so similar. About the only major difference I find is that some of the film capacitor types I liked for audio are not robust enough to handle the temperatures of IR reflow and SMT processes in general. I tried and had prob...

Re: Simple MIDI Line mixer with THAT VCAs.

I'm using MIDI for a couple of reasons. I already have to use MIDI to change the presets on the EQ's. If I don't use MIDI for the mixer...I'll have to come up with some way to take whatever preset I select for the mixer and have it generate a MIDI message to the EQ's. Either way...I'm working with ...

Re: Simple MIDI Line mixer with THAT VCAs.

I am still a little unclear about what you mean by MIDI..? Are you using it to encompass all remote controlled functionality, or do you have some preference for using MIDI live? Presets for a rig do not have to be done using MIDI control interfaces. JR PS: FWIW decades ago when I was designing stuff...

Re: Simple MIDI Line mixer with THAT VCAs.

THAT's the project I'm working at least. Since this place looks to be pretty THAT-centric I figured it's probably the best place to ask THAT questions (Besides THAT Corp of course) So first up...I'm way out of my league based on the discussions I've read here so far so please bear with me if I say ...

Re: Switching caps in an EQ?

Most electronic switches, like JFETs or CMOS transfer gates exhibit small on resistance changes with terminal voltage. In some filter topologies where the terminal voltage across the active switch is held small in normal operation, the non-linearity of the TG or JFET can be small, but then you have ...
