Re: Using the Precision MS Matrix for Mono Crossover LF Blen
Using the MS matrix board to do the VAB84 emulation uses the "Decode" half of the board leaving the "Encode" available for a conventional Side HP filter. Since you only have the encode side would you do the same kind of thing where you subtract the side channel HPF from the main...

Re: Using the Precision MS Matrix for Mono Crossover LF Blen
Okay, now I think I understand it. It's pretty cool. I would like to hear it. If you eliminate the inverter do you get the subtraction of the side channel? If so you could put a switch in.

Re: Using the Precision MS Matrix for Mono Crossover LF Blen
Paul when I ran tests on this using program material I didn't experience level build-up from the additive process. I think that's because the level of side relative to mid is usually quite small. In the case where the low frequency uncorrelated information is small there is no reason to switch it i...

Re: Using the Precision MS Matrix for Mono Crossover LF Blen
I was thinking it might help you make that sausage faster without having to patch in that EQ and compressor to fix what the EE took away. I do two kinds of cutting. Stuff I master and stuff I don't. If I haven't mastered it and I think there might be tracking problems I'll switch in an EE at 150. U...

Re: Using the Precision MS Matrix for Mono Crossover LF Blen
So I think it depends on what the source material hands you: Some LF out-of-phase components may not have artistic value regardless of whether not they can be cut to vinyl. Other LF out-of-phase components may have actual artistic value. This is undoubtably true. I however am a sausage maker. If I ...

Re: Using the Precision MS Matrix for Mono Crossover LF Blen
What I think you may have missed in this thread as it eventually evolved is that the technique I'm showing here doesn't actually use MS. It just uses the MS board. I did miss that. I'll read the thread more carefully. As Neumann wrote about the VAB84 ""Flank signal components are simultan...

Re: Using the Precision MS Matrix for Mono Crossover LF Blen
BTW I still have two extra EE boards that Roger laid out. If anyone wants a unit let me know. I'm not selling PCB's and I'm not ordering anymore. Here are some pictures of the finished unit. The boards work but I still have to test the final unit and tack a couple of wires in. The console has separa...

Re: Using the Precision MS Matrix for Mono Crossover LF Blen
Thanks for alerting me to this thread Wayne. I'm late to the party so forgive me if I've missed something. The reason it is called an elliptical filter is because of the groove shape it makes not the filter topology. It narrows the groove for uncorrelated low end. You could use the M/S boards for th...

Re: Pico Final Build
When I started I didn't think many would want it. I didn't care. I wanted to do it because I wanted to do it. Now, eight years later I think it may make up the bulk of my work. There is a lot of interest in it. I'm already doing direct tape to lacquer mastering on a pretty regular basis with a two c...

Re: Pico Final Build
That really sounds like a big undertaking. I'm in year eight...Last month I decided to make finishing it part of my job. In the past I worked on it "whenever I could" which was weekends when I didn't have studio work spill over or other commitments. Which meant a month could go by pretty ...
