US and China Announce Trade Deal in Geneva

US and China Announce Trade Deal in Geneva

From Mouser: https://www.mouser.com/tariff-updates/
US and China Announce Trade Deal in Geneva

On May 12, 2025, the United States announced that a trade deal had been reached with Chinese officials following a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. Both sides would reduce retaliatory tariffs implemented on April 9, 2025, and they would be effective by May 14, 2025. The result keeps all tariffs in place previous to the US announcement of Reciprocal Tariffs on April 2, 2025, and would reduce the Reciprocal tariff on China-origin goods to 10%. Section 301, Section 232, and IEEPA Fentanyl Tariffs will remain. China will reduce the tariff on US imports from 125% to 10%.
I have a couple of expensive items in my cart at Mouser. Glad I waited.

Note the huge drop: China will reduce the tariff on US imports from 125% to 10%.

Winning...

I had been afraid to look at JLC pricing.

Another rate imbalance I've never understood is the cost of Express shipments (DHL, Fedex and UPS) are 3 to 4 times more expensive originating from the US.

I've just discovered Pirate Ship. https://www.pirateship.com For UPS it beats the rates I get by almost 50%.

It was talked about briefly over at GDIY..
Here's one shot from a poster.. I have a small order and tariffs were about equal the cost of shipping....

I've heard of that...
Wonder if there's a way to have something like a forum account with the bigger shippers..Fedex..etc where everyone pools in the account... Better rates? Have to be pretty active??

My old neighbor had a security camera business and he helped me out a couple of times with his Fedex account...

I just had JLC do a quote and the tariffs and customs line wasn't present on the quote.

Both shipping (DHL) and board costs had increased since late 2023 with the order total about 36% more.

The Mouser item still has a 20% tariff applied which is odd because they claim to be a Free Trade Zone.

ShipStation has good rates compared to USPS and UPS retail pricing.

I see what you mean about having to go further into checkout.

I calculated the tariff percentage on my order based on the sum of merchandise plus shipping and it worked out to 20%.

On your order its 30%.

The product was a double-sided board. Which, by the way views, with the large ground plane circles on the order page but not on their own viewer. It didn't last time I ordered. I always have them send me the production file for confirmation and sometimes its wrong too. Any Gerber viewer I have doesn't do this and eventually they get it right. JLC's Gerber import is FUBAR.
