Justice: Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College

Relax in southern comfort on the east bank of the Mississippi. You're just around the corner from Beale Street and Sun Records. Watch the ducks, throw back a few and tell us what's on your mind.

Justice: Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College

Post by mediatechnology » Fri Jun 14, 2019 8:35 pm

“People have no idea on how much stress this has had on our family and business for almost three years. But from the beginning, we just didn’t understand why they were punishing us for something we had nothing to do with.” https://legalinsurrection.com/2019/06/p ... courtroom/
Answer: Because social justice warriors are psychopathic bullies.

https://legalinsurrection.com/2019/06/g ... t-college/

On a different campus on a different day, it is unlikely a simple shoplifting case would have gained much attention. But the incident occurred the day after Donald Trump was elected president, in the wake of which Oberlin students appeared ready to build on the school’s history of left-wing activism to exercise their angst. Thus this otherwise unexciting crime became their cause célèbre….

This historic case received scant media attention during the trial. My publication, Legal Insurrection, was the only national outlet to be present for the entire trial, because we felt Gibson Bros. v. Oberlin College was emblematic of tensions in American culture, particularly the “town vs. gown” divide that pits activist colleges against the places that host them.

In this case, Oberlin students and administrators appeared happy to smear a family-run institution in pursuit of a “social justice” agenda. Ignoring the facts, they attempted to destroy a business without concern for the damage they were inflicting on a family and workers in their own community….

The Gibson family showed that, using the legal system, it is possible to fight back and win. The verdict in Gibson Bros. v. Oberlin confirms that colleges and universities aren’t immune from accountability for participating in aggressive activism among their students, especially when that activism is built on lies and smears.

For Oberlin, it didn’t have to end this way. At the height of the controversy, the Gibson family says it asked the school to send a letter to students reiterating what had already become clear: The bakery didn’t engage in racial profiling. Administrators refused. Had the college agreed to refute the baseless claims of racism, it is unlikely that the Gibson family would have pursued the matter in court.

The verdict is in, and it regards more than money. The jury held accountable an unhinged progressive activist college that lost concern for the lives of working people in its community.
$33,000,000 punitive award. Sweet.

The political climate is caustic and not getting better... there are some courts that would have sided with the school, luckily they got a fair hearing.

These college kids are tomorrows deranged adults. The wine shoplifters were typical petty crooks, but the school's response was way out of line and needed correction.

I expect these schools to get starved for money as online education becomes more widely available, and student loans less available.

Finally got around to reading the articles linked and somewhat horrified. But glad the little guy fought and won!

Many small businesses do not have the resources to fight in court, but if you get angry enough, and the offender shows zero remorse, you do what you must. Hopefully this will serve as an object lesson to throttle back the too many out of control institutions.

Hopefully this won't be appealed but it likely will.

IF I were the Plaintiff and I actually collected the $33 million settlement I would do the following:

1) Sign an extended lease on the store if I didn't own it.
2) Close the store.
3) Leave an empty abandoned storefront.
4) Retire.

Democrat Staffer Who Doxxed Political Enemies Gets Four Years In Prison

Post by mediatechnology » Thu Jun 20, 2019 4:24 am

A 27-year-old former Democratic staffer who doxxed Republican senators during Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's 2018 confirmation hearings was sentenced to four years in prison on Wednesday. Jackson Cosko - a Sanders supporter and son of a millionaire San Francisco developer tied to both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) - pleaded guilty in April to five felonies "related to an unparalleled effort to ransack a Senate office, extorting a Democratic senator, illegally harming Republicans for their political views, and blackmailing a witness," writes the Daily Caller's Luke Rosiak.

For something else to chew on about the state of modern higher education, regulators are talking about mandating financial education in college in light of the student loan debt problems, etc. Since the government basically caused the problem, they need to fix themselves.. never gonna happen.

I wonder if they would advise them to not borrow money to attend universities teaching worthless poop that will never win them gainful employment? I'd say that horse has already left the barn, by this point.

How about teaching basic finance in HS, and what about bringing back civics classes too...?

Another recent SJW convict of note is Miss Reality Winner.

https://www.wrdw.com/content/news/Local ... 09861.html

My youngest daughter, who graduated from HS in 2007, was taught how to balance a checkbook and do a budget.
Her report didn't budget any money for cable TV: Her teachers asked about it and she explained that she wasn't receiving enough imaginary income to justify it. They were somewhat shocked.

When I met her in 2000 and became part of her life the first thing I did was cancel cable TV.
She went from being a C student to an A/B student.

By the time she was 18 she had her own apartment and cable bill: She could afford it.

I can never get over her name. Parents shouldn't be allowed to do that to their children! But not as bad as mr and mrs peacock, who called their son 'drew'. I kid you not.

Littlest ones are only aware of one tv channel. I will keep it that way as long as possible. I had cable for 2 years in chicago and since then no satellite and no cable and I really don't feel I have missed anything. Too much music to listen to :D
